Additional revenue of £35K generated in the first 3 months of following the International Trade Consultancy Export Plan
GBM Demolition | UK Demolition Contractor | Earthworks | Land Remediation (gbmuk.com)
Grantham Industries Limited, trading as GBM, is located in Louth, Lincolnshire. They are primarily a demolition and waste management company but have recently diversified into brokering sales of plant. Sales so far have been from the UK to the EU but there are opportunities to expand into EU to EU sales and it is likely that GBM will also buy plant themselves in the future to sell on.
When GBM broker the sale they arrange collection using Incoterms Ex-Works (EXW) from the seller’s premises but are still the exporter of record because ownership of the goods transfers very briefly from the seller to GBM. As such, their responsibilities as far as export compliance is concerned are the same as if they had owned the plant for some time. The International Trade Consultancy was engaged to ensure that all transactions are conducted in compliance with export / import regulations in the UK and EU.
GBM explained each stage of the current business model and how it was likely to evolve as sales grew. The International Trade Consultancy then wrote a detailed Export Plan including step by step instructions and web links to allow GBM to ensure the correct HS code was supplied for use in the UK and EU tariffs, how to determine origin and import duty, the best Incoterm for GBM to use depending on the type of transaction, VAT implications, how to check whether an export license is required and the correct information to include on the commercial invoice so the customs declarations can be completed accurately.
This is a really useful, practical document for us to follow when exporting that will be perfect for training new members of the team. We feel much more confident pursuing this new revenue stream.
