Profile: The Italian Wine Shop is the passion project of Angelica Sykes who wanted to bring the beautiful unknown Italian wines that she drinks when visiting her family there to the jaded but sophisticated palates of Londoners and then the rest of the UK. Customers will be able to buy new wines every month via the website and also enjoy unique events hosted by Angelica where they can benefit from her knowledge of and passion for Italian wines.

Problem: However, Angelica knows nothing about how to go about importing or what’s involved and required for customs and logistics so after a chance meeting at the Karren Brady Women in Business & Tech expo, she engaged Lucinda on a monthly retainer to manage the process and take all the stress out of that side of the business.

Solution: The International Trade Consultancy identified the correct HS codes according to the type of wine and % abv and calculated how much import and excise duty would be payable. As many of the suppliers hadn’t exported before, a commercial invoice template was provided to make it as easy as possible for them to provide the required information for the customs declarations with much of the information already completed for them. Also included as part of the consultancy work was Incoterms, the Customs Procedure Code, insurance, EORI numbers for all parties, liaising with the transport company and 3PL bonded warehouse, authorisation for customs warehousing and overseeing the first shipment.
